Are We Poisoning The Sea?

Everyday we poison the sea with toxic waste. We destroy habitats by putting trash, chemicals, oil, and many other things into our seas, lakes, and ponds. When we do this we not only put the wildlife living in these habitats in danger but ourselves as well. These chemicals are not good for us or animals. The toxic chemicals enter our bodies and can cause damage. Humans are affected with a range of symptoms including skin irritation, stomach cramps, vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea, fever, sore throat, headache, muscle and joint pain, blisters of the mouth and liver damage. Animals, birds, and fish are all being affected by this as well.

  1. During the video, the fact that I found most startling, was that 1/3 of marine mammals are in danger of going extinct. Like you mentioned and in the video, by allowing toxic wastes into our oceans, we are only hurting these animals more.

When you said the toxic chemicals enter our bodies, is that through eating animals living in these seas, or through other ways?

  2. If we are dumping chemicals into the water from BFRs (Brominated Flame Retardants) What are we suppose to use instead of these to protect yourselves?

  3. To Meryl - Yes, its mostly by eating fish and seafood that these chemicals get into our bodies. The sea animals eat these plastics and junk we throw into the water and we eat them, putting these chemicals in our bodies. We put the toxic waste into the ocean but in reality we are putting them into other humans and sea life as well.
